Muffins with Mom
This morning was "muffins with mom" in Henry's class. I so look forward to this, and this year was yet again so sweet. We got to eat muffins and juice together; Henry made me some sweet pictures, notes, and a cute handprint sign; and then the class sang songs to all the moms. So sweet!
They also sang some silly songs, including an individual song about each child in the class. Guess what henry's song was about?? I just love his illustration...
Of course it was about animals!! He's the class animal expert! :) love it!!

Mexican fiesta!!

As part of their unit time at school, Henry's kindergarten class has been doing an "around the world" segment, learning about different countries. For each country they get to paint a t-shirt and then wear it on the day of their party/taste testing, etc. Last week they learned all about China, including the different foods that they eat and the different kind of animals that live there. Henry loved that!!
This week they've been learning about Mexico. So today was their Mexican fiesta...they got to paint maracas, break open a pinata, eat tacos and chips and salsa, and dance the Mexican hat dance. I got to come help set up (decorate the tables) and serve all those sweet kindergartners their tacos. Oliver came along with me and sat content in his stroller the entire time. It was so much fun!! I got to go when Hudson was in kindergarten and knew I could not miss Henry's day.
I just love kindergarten at Eastwood!! Mrs. Stokes, Mrs. Bethea, and Mrs. Cox are amazing!!

christmas day
Christmas morning I was totally prepared for a super early morning of present madness, but the boys pleasantly surprised us by staying in their beds until 7...something we've tried to daily enforce but never dreaming that this particular morning, they would actually abide by it. At about 6:30, I even heard Hudson reminding his brothers that it wasn't 7, so they couldn't come out yet. I wasn't about to get out of my warm bed (after only 4 hours of sleep) and say it was okay today. :)
another year of classic favorites: costumes, games, puzzles, and legos...

and some Baylor t-shirts for all of us!
Oliver was quite happy to just crawl around and play with everyone's trash! :)
It wouldn't be Christmas without some Auburn football for Hudson!

Henry and Nate were quite excited about their new reptile and amphibian books as well!

I love that my boys are so easy to please! Another simple Christmas with no big ticket items but another year of happy and content little boys! So, so thankful...

After gift opening, Brian got ready and headed to the church. The boys and I were left to get ready on our own (like most Sundays) and leave the house somewhat in order (so people would have a place to walk when they came over for lunch later). We headed to the church for morning worship.
Afterward the Henninger family, as well as James Rawson and 5 homeless men and women (who came back to our morning worship after attending our dinner the night before!) came over for lunch. We kept it simple and had warm turkey and swiss cheese sandwiches (on Hawaiian sweet rolls with a delicious spread-butter, mustard, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire sauce...best ever sandwiches!!), broccoli casserole, salad, pecan pie, sugar cookies, and the Henninger's brought a green bean casserole and a yummy chocolate dessert.
We had quite the eclectic group for Christmas lunch and the conversations got interesting to say the least, and quite honestly I had to check my heart at times. It's one thing to say you want to serve and love the unlovable but a whole other thing to actually do it, as well as opening up your own home. My prideful, fearful heart can so get in the way of what the Lord requires of me..."but to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with my God."
A heart check. Definitely what I needed on Christmas Day.
Unfortunately, I was too distracted to get any pictures of our time together at lunch. I really wish I had. I also had plans of a family pic in front of our tree dressed in our Christmas best, but the boys immediately put on play clothes as soon as we walked in the door. I wasn't quick enough. :(
By that afternoon both Brian and I were exhausted. As soon as everyone left, we traded off taking naps and watching the boys enjoy their new gifts.
This weekend made me appreciate even more our early Christmas at the beach. A truly restful time.
I'm still recovering from our Christmas weekend. The life of a pastor's family...I better get used to it! :)

they did it!!
So we're a little late with learning, but they finally did it! This past fall when Aunt LeeAnne was here, she worked with them on their balance and gliding on their bikes. However, once she left, so did their motivation. Anytime we would mention riding their bikes, neither Hudson or Henry had any desire.
Until yesterday.
It was like Henry woke up that morning and decided he was going to ride his bike that day. And that's just what he did...with no help from us except for the occasional initial push to get him going. When Hudson came home from school and discovered that Henry had taught himself how to ride his bike, he did the very same thing.
Seriously. Those boys just hopped right on and away they flew! I was so amazed!!
Who would have thought it could be that easy? I guess it just finally clicked for them. So thanks again, Aunt LeeAnne, for getting the wheels rolling. :)

Signs that my 2 year old may have seen "Lord of the Rings" a few too many times...
He has perfected his impersonation of Gollum..."my precious"
He has conversations about Merry and Pippin
He brings up "Lord of the Rings" multiple times a day
Long gone are the days of the Wiggles and Baby Einstein. Poor Jake never even had a chance. I can't imagine what baby #5 is in for!
And seriously, how the boys are not scared to death of that movie is beyond me. They are fascinated, while I'm having to hide my eyes. I don't know if I should be impressed or concerned...

a jake moment

A couple of weeks ago, I tried to have record of Jake and his vast knowledge of animal sounds. It wasn't as smooth as he normally responds, but it was a little distracting seeing as he had a camera in his face and Nate was stealing his lunch off of his tray and saying the sounds before Jake had a chance. However, it did have him saying "all aboard!" when I asked him what a dinosaur says. And I'm so glad I finally got it on camera because just within the past couple of days, he has moved on and now accurately roars when asked what a dinosaur says. The boys and I miss the "all aboard! choo choo!" response greatly. :)
