christmas day

Christmas morning I was totally prepared for a super early morning of present madness, but the boys pleasantly surprised us by staying in their beds until 7...something we've tried to daily enforce but never dreaming that this particular morning, they would actually abide by it. At about 6:30, I even heard Hudson reminding his brothers that it wasn't 7, so they couldn't come out yet. I wasn't about to get out of my warm bed (after only 4 hours of sleep) and say it was okay today. :)

another year of classic favorites: costumes, games, puzzles, and legos...

and some Baylor t-shirts for all of us!
Oliver was quite happy to just crawl around and play with everyone's trash! :)
It wouldn't be Christmas without some Auburn football for Hudson!

Henry and Nate were quite excited about their new reptile and amphibian books as well!

I love that my boys are so easy to please! Another simple Christmas with no big ticket items but another year of happy and content little boys! So, so thankful...

After gift opening, Brian got ready and headed to the church. The boys and I were left to get ready on our own (like most Sundays) and leave the house somewhat in order (so people would have a place to walk when they came over for lunch later). We headed to the church for morning worship.

Afterward the Henninger family, as well as James Rawson and 5 homeless men and women (who came back to our morning worship after attending our dinner the night before!) came over for lunch. We kept it simple and had warm turkey and swiss cheese sandwiches (on Hawaiian sweet rolls with a delicious spread-butter, mustard, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire sauce...best ever sandwiches!!), broccoli casserole, salad, pecan pie, sugar cookies, and the Henninger's brought a green bean casserole and a yummy chocolate dessert.

We had quite the eclectic group for Christmas lunch and the conversations got interesting to say the least, and quite honestly I had to check my heart at times. It's one thing to say you want to serve and love the unlovable but a whole other thing to actually do it, as well as opening up your own home. My prideful, fearful heart can so get in the way of what the Lord requires of me..."but to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with my God."

A heart check. Definitely what I needed on Christmas Day.

Unfortunately, I was too distracted to get any pictures of our time together at lunch. I really wish I had. I also had plans of a family pic in front of our tree dressed in our Christmas best, but the boys immediately put on play clothes as soon as we walked in the door. I wasn't quick enough. :(

By that afternoon both Brian and I were exhausted. As soon as everyone left, we traded off taking naps and watching the boys enjoy their new gifts.

This weekend made me appreciate even more our early Christmas at the beach. A truly restful time.

I'm still recovering from our Christmas weekend. The life of a pastor's family...I better get used to it! :)
