Henry: "Mommy, why is your belly so faaaa...?"
and then he stops himself, thinking it might come out rude. :)

quote of the day
Lately the boys have really enjoyed reading through their funny quotes here on the blog. Hudson will read them out loud, and they all just laugh hysterically. So fun!
So today Henry came in to tell me about Jake and that I must put it on the blog...
Jake bumped his head.
Hudson: "Jake, are you okay?"
Jake: "No, I'm not okay. I'm not a girl! I'm a boy!!"
Hudson interpreted it as Jake wanting to be tough like a boy and not cry like a girl. :)

the funnies
1. Hudson's birthday is next week, and for the past couple of days he has been brainstorming gift ideas. Today in the car, the boys' conversation with me went like this...
Hudson: "Hey Mommy, can I have a computer for my birthday?"
uhhh, no. good try though, buddy.
Hudson: "What about an iPhone?"
ummm, no. i don't think so.
Henry: "What about an iPod?"
nope.
Hudson: "Can I have an iPad?"
nope.
Nate: "What about an iPatch??"
Yes, Nate! That's a great idea! We can do an eye patch!
love that boy.
2. While we were out running errands today, I swung by redbox to pick up a movie for the boys to watch. So this evening after dinner and their baths, while they were waiting for their favorite babysitters (Soren and Virginia) to get here (so Brian and I could have a date), I stuck in "The Muppets take Manhattan." I was in the kitchen feeding Oliver his veggies, and Jake immediately came in before the movie even started.
Don't you want to watch the muppets, Jakey?
"No, that pigger is scary!"
You mean Miss Piggy?
"Yes, I don't like Miss Pigger!"
And now every time I think about Jake calling Miss Piggy "that pigger," I cannot stop laughing.

quote of the day
Karl texted me this one on their way home to Alabama this past Sunday. They were talking about eating weird food, and Nate says...
"I've had dolphin before. It tastes like caribou!"

Today in the car the topic of marriage came up. again.
Hudson says, "I'm never going to get married. Because of the kissing thing. You have to kiss...on the lips!!"
All the boys were in full agreement that they, too, would never get married. because of the kissing thing.
What?? You mean I'm never going to be a grandma?? No grandkids?? I was hoping that you would have girls! :)
Hudson replies, "No way!! Girls? That is unacceptable!"
All the boys were in full agreement on that, too.

the 7 dwarves all wrapped up in one little 2 year old
Jake is a boy of all moods. at any given time. all day. every day.
He can be happy one minute and then mad the very next...just thinking about something. and you never know when his mood might change.
"Jake, you sure are grumpy (or "happy" or "bashful" or "sleepy," etc - depending on the moment)."
His response, however, is always the same...
"I not grumpy! (or happy or sad or sleepy). I Jacob Roland MacDonald!!" he says very emphatically.

and some more about Hudson
A couple of Sunday mornings ago, we attended Young Meadows' morning worship. During the service Hudson filled this Easter lilies order form. I thought it was cute...
"Dear Cam Newton,
I hope you will love this buzz cut!
Love,
Hudson"
And then he drew a self portrait with his new buzz cut (which he loves!).
So. Cute.
The other day Hud brought this Eastwood school picture of the entire school last school year. Can you find him????

jake quote of the day
On this very rainy morning the boys were all playing so well together in the house...sword fighting and lightsaber duels, hide and go seek, zoo and farm animals everywhere...thoroughly making a mess of the house as any little energetic boy, all cooped up because of the rain, should.
I passed Jake, who was holding a sword, in the hallway. "I'm savin' the world!" he called to me as he ran by.

missing Lady...
We haven't seen our dog Lady since October. She's been with my parents since the 3 younger boys spent some time there this past October when I was packing up our Crawford Street house. We couldn't have her in the Clayton Street house and thinking it would only be a temporary visit for her until Christmas when my parents would bring her back (and we would be moved in to our new house), we didn't think much of her "short" visit to Texas. However, 4 months later, we miss our Lady terribly!! Thankfully she's being spoiled and loved on, as any grand-dog should. We're hoping to get the rest of the house in order (and free of workers coming in and out, which would be a bit much to handle with a dog in the midst of the chaos) in the next few weeks, and then she can come home.
Anyway.....the boys and I have been reading The Long Winter. A while back we read about Almonzo's horse (named Lady) running away. Anytime I would read about the horse and say her name, Henry would stop me and cry, "Mommy, please don't say her name! It makes me miss Lady even more!!"
So precious. So sweet. I almost cried and tried to assure Henry that Lady would be coming home to us very soon.
A couple of days later, Henry said this to me, "So Mommy, since Lady is never coming home, can we just get a pet hamster???"

love that boy!
This afternoon the 3 big boys were out playing in the backyard on this beautiful, feels like spring day. They were huddled together, and Hudson was explaining the play by play of the football game they were about to play.
Nate interrupts him and says, "Now hold on. Does this mean that after the game we can pour gatorade all over our heads?"

baby questions from jake
First of all, I can hardly believe I'm 31 weeks, and this little guy will be here before we know it!! (hopefully we'll have a kitchen, and our house will be in order by then). :) I had my 30 week appt. last week, and everything looks great...a healthy 143 heartbbeat, and I measured 29 cm. I'm feeling pretty good except for the usual aches and pains at this stage, not to mention the pain in my right rib that I experience with all my pregnancies around this time. Overall, the baby and I are both healthy, and for that I am so grateful.
Secondly, we don't officially have a name picked out (so please don't hold me to this name), but as of now we (I) really like Oliver. No full name yet, and we could always change our minds, so we'll see. I've been trying "Oliver" out with the boys lately, and Jake says "Obiber." Nate, however, is still convinced that our baby is going to be named "Harry."
Today at lunch we were talking about the baby (Oliver), and Jake had a few questions...
"Is Obiber comin'?"
"Will he bite?" (Jake's been a bit concerned lately with anything or anyone potentially biting him).
"Can I tickle Obiber's tummy?"

quote of the day
On our way to Sam's yesterday, Nate insisted he had it covered...
"I know the rules...obey Mommy. don't whine. stay with mommy. don't run away. hold hands...and don't climb trees!"

overheard
Today in the van after picking up Hudson from school, I overheard the boys talking about getting married and having kids someday...
Hudson: I think I can only handle one kid.
Henry: I'm going to have 2...not 5!!
Hudson: Oh no! Definitely not 5!!
Henry: Mommy can handle 5...

Auburn basketball game
Last night Brian and I took Hudson to an Auburn (vs. Florida State) basketball game for his birthday. Thankfully he chose that over a party, which is what he had originally wanted to do, but honestly I'm glad he changed his mind. Things have been crazy and planning a birthday party has been the last thing on our minds.
I think he had a great time and was happy to be an only child for an evening. That boy loves anything that has to do with sports and Auburn, so he was quite excited! And it was his first time attending a real basketball game...aside from Eastwood school games.
The other 3 boys stayed home and watched movies with Uncle Mark and Uncle Todd (who had just come in town that evening to help us work on the house and finish up one of the bathrooms). They agreed to babysit, and thankfully everything went well. :)

Best quote of the night...
As we were leaving the game and driving through campus on the way home, Brian got all nostalgic about college and said, "Ahhh, I wish I could go back to college."
And Hudson added, "I wish I could GO to college!!"
classic.
