2Cities Backyard Blast!!

We just finished off a week of a fun backyard bible club in Capitol Heights.  As opposed to teaming up with another church for vbs this year, our church decided to do this instead, and it worked really well.  A sweet family we know (the McClure's) volunteered their big backyard for the event, and a bunch of 2Cities folks volunteered their evenings every night this week to come and help.  From 6:30-8 pm we had games, songs, teaching, crafts, snacks, and more games. Guess who was the mc and master of the games??  That's right...my "best youth pastor ever" man!! :)

He did not disappoint with his choice of games that amazingly all tied in to the lessons each day...right down to the classic "hose head!"

We had about 20-40 kids from the neighborhood show up each evening, and we ended the week with a big hotdog grill-out tonight.  The kids had a great time, and I think my boys are going to be sad that the week is over.  Oliver, however, will probably be grateful to go back to his 7 pm bedtime. :)  He was a trooper, though.  It was a 10 pm bedtime all week, by the time we got home after taking kids home and cleaning up each night.  And baths were a necessity after all those great games in this Alabama humidity.

It was a great week with the hope of some new relationships that will continue.  Brian picked up a handful of kids each day from a nearby apartment complex.  And now one of the moms may join our playgroup on Tuesday mornings.  So exciting!!
