We went to a book fair at Old Alabama Town this morning. There were a few booths of interest to the boys, including some fun children's books that Brian let them each pick one out to buy. However, the best part of the morning, was getting to tour Old Alabama Town for free! It usually costs money, and we've never actually done the tour, but today they had it all open because of the book fair. We enjoyed walking through the different shops and cotton gin...it was like seeing "Little House on the Prairie" in a very tangible way for the boys. So fun!!
Then later this evening there was a street fair on Dexter Avenue. There were lots of booths set up from different businesses, restaurants, artists, and 2Cities even had a booth. Our church was also one of the sponsors of the street fair, and a few of our members helped out with set up and tear down of the fair. Such a neat ministry opportunity to help serve downtown!
The fair was a lot of fun! There was a hot dog eating contest, acrobats, jugglers, clowns on stilts, big bounce houses, fencing duels, an ice cream truck, as well as all the different booths to walk through. The boys had a great time even though we were not able to do all the bouncy fun...$10 per kid! Thankfully, they were content to get an ice cream from the icecream truck and watch all the entertainment as we walked around.
Unfortunately, I got no pictures of the fun. Maybe next year!
