a saturday surprise!

To end our spring break, Brian and I decided to take the boys on a secret trip that Saturday. Plus, Brian had been working all week, so we hadn't really been able to spend much time as a family, so we were way over due for a fun family day.

The only requirements Brian gave them were to wear tennis shoes and baseball hats. We packed some lunches, snacks, and water and were on our way...

The boys eventually figured out we were headed to Georgia when we told them it was only a 3 hour trip. They decided it wasn't the beach since we hadn't packed swimsuits, and by the way we were headed on 85 they found out we were headed out of Alabama.

But still no clue where we were actually going.

We did make one stop before our final destination...their mom's request...

can you guess where???

Oliver approved!!
Yep! That's right! La Madeleine!! The boys were glad to know that wasn't the whole trip but were quite anxious to actually be there...wherever "there" actually was...

30 minutes later, we arrived at our secret destination...

Stone Mountain!!!

The boys were so excited, although this picture doesn't quite show their excitement. We were waiting on Brian who was taking the stroller back down to the van. We completely forgot the little hiking backpack for Oliver to ride in, so part way up the mountain we had him in the stroller but then realized we would never make it that way. He ended up doing fine in either mine or Brian's arms.

The boys did great climbing up that entire mountain by themselves. I was so proud of them!!

Henry, of course, was always on the look out for creatures along the way...
you can't really see in this picture, but once we neared the top, you could see downtown Atlanta in the distance...

toward the top, it got pretty steep, so they had a railing to hold on to...

We made it!!

this little guy sure was tired out from all that hiking he did...

Later that night, we stayed for the laser/firework show. So much fun!!

We didn't get home until after midnight but so worth it! The boys had the best time, even claiming it was the "best day of their life!" :)

So much fun and a great way to end a super spring break!!
